Instacart - Stolen deliveries, poor customer service - AVOID!

My advice... Use Instacart as a $50 referral scheme, or, get your introduction freebies and MOVE ON!

The first two orders I made, my groceries were never delivered. The first order, the person claimed to deliver them, but didn't. I told Instacart to ban this person from making future orders from me. Low and behold, this did not happen, and this same person re-stole my second order! This driver is now banned, so that is good, but why let it go this far?

I must have contacted Instacart over 40 times over the 4 orders I made. That's 10 emails per order. This isn't a very time saving experience that was originally advertised by Instacart. I might as well go to the store myself.

I then has issues with support providing me credit as a 'sorry that your orders were stolen' coupon. The coupon didn't work when added over $35 to my cart. I had to contact them again and spent all morning today on this. When they finally fixed this bug, my free delivery went away.

Both the website and Android apps have many issues and bugs. The 'Sort by price' filters really do not work at all! Try for yourself! The Android app has a search bug where the search is hidden after the first search, so you have to guess what you search for. There is also an issue with wrong prices and wrong quantities on the website. At Smith's a TWO GALLON milk is $2.14. They WILL NOT deliver this, they will deliver half a gallon and expect you to deal with it. I told Instacart about these issues weeks ago and nothing has been done about it. The list really goes on, I could be here all day!

The support tickets are annoying because I'll get an agent who is really good and understanding, I reply to them, then some idiot in support takes over my case EVERYTIME I reply. They DO NOT READ the entire support chain, and I go round in circles again. This happen EVERY response!

The latest order, somebody thought it would be a good idea to replace a 50lb bag of rice with a 5lb bag. The 5lb bag was also a crappy value per oz. That's 10 times smaller that I wanted. Why didnt they chat with me using the chat feature? I can appreciate Instacart targets cheap people with low ambitions as drivers as they promise the self-employment dream that some job-hunters crave.... But this detriments the entire process. Orders get stolen, drivers get annoyed and damage your property. I mean, really!

Icing on the cake... You will get many emails containing the following: "If you have any feedback on how we can make Instacart Express better, just reply to this email!". Each time, the email will be sent from a no-reply email and your nice informative response will get bounced back, or, forgotten and lost forever.

Their support service is called the "happycustomers" team. I think they call it this so you go easy on them! They promise a 2 hour response, but you WILL end up waiting over 12 hours on some occasions, and when your groceries are missing, 12 hours is a long time to wait wondering where your money and your goods have gone!

Just go to the store yourself! You'll be glad you did!

  1. Instacart does not treat their shoppers fairly. They make us drive extremely long distances to the stores, another long drive to customer's house, steal our tips, and pay us peanuts. I see why orders get stolen, the drivers are fed up. This is a joke of a company and they treat their employees badly. Plus, the mark up for customers is ridiculous. Not going to be around too much longer...

  2. Thanks for the feedback, it's nice to understand things from the other side! It seems like Instacart aren't pleasing anybody but themselves!

  3. Just check out the Reddit pages on Instacart. Hear from the shoppers themselves. I literally drove a total of 58 miles roundtrip, hauled bulk water, cat litter and huge bags of dog food for an order. And made $13.00. Then I started ignoring orders that were over 15 miles away, only to get these 'reliability incident' email warnings from them. They sure do expect a lot from us, with zero incentives. Horrible company. Would not recommend.

  4. The I start delivery guy left my groceries with the information desk of an emergency room at a local hospital and never contacted me despite I instructions to do so.
Unfortunately, though I'd chosen a different delivery address, I'd backed up into the app a couple of times and the address changed. How an address I'd never actually used was defaulted to I've zero idea. But the driver never contacted me. Left them at an Emergency Room for cripes sake!
They gave me 5 dollars as a head pat and condescended to me. That crappy delivery cost me 45$

    Screw instacart. I'm out.

  5. I live in public housing on social security retirement. I am not on food stamps. I am not condemning people who are on food stamps though. If you knew what it was like to go down and apply for them and have to recertify for them you wouldnt look down on anybody who is on them. My point re instacart is this. 99 percent of the time I have had a very good experience with them over a two year period. I am very grateful with this service. But yesterday a young girl who brought me my groceries from Aldi/instacart ripped off some ice cream from me. Because of something I siad to her early on (she delivered the order in two parts) I believe she thought I had dementia and wouldnt notice but I do not have dementia. She was so sweet and kind to me I never thought about looking at the order to see if I got everything. ALWAYS LOOK AT THE ORDER BEFORE THEY LEAVE TO MAKE SURE IT IS COMPLETE BECAUSE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THE ITEMS BACK. Anyway, she shook my hand before she left called me by name and said God Bless You. It made me sick at heart when I realized she had stolen ice crream from me. I rarely get treats. What she stole cost 15 dollars but it cost a lot more than that emotionally. Horrible to find out someone is being nice to you so they can rip off some of your groceries. I hope wherever she is whoever she is in her heart that she stops doing this. Could you really not buy your own ice cream?

    1. Dont you think its a possibilty that she didnt steal the ice cream? Maybe it rolled out of the bag and was accidentally left in her car or accidentally left at the store? Why would she want melty ice cream anyways?

    2. I don't think she stole your ice cream, many times the shopper is shopping for as many as 3 customers at a time, it does happen that some of the orders get mixed up. What you really shod be thinking is, thank you for getting my groceries, and allowing me to not have to do this 2 or 3 hour ordeal, because the shoppers don't get paid enough for the job they do. Sadly most customer don't pay their delivery person for the job they perform so be thankful or go get your own groceries.

  6. I have not (as a customer) had such a bad experience. If I ever did not get something I always get a credit and for me... why not? I have a 15 yo daughter and sometimes when I'm working she needs something so instacart is there. I as a shopper understand why other shoppers steal and its because they know instacart will give the customer a refund or credit. But for someone like you that doesn't mean anything. That ice cream was extremely important. The shopper no doubt figured that you'd get your refund or credit and really thought they were getting over on instacart. Wrong as it is it isn't suprising. Just saying...
